King Valley (optional loop via Lake Buffalo)
Approx 180km, 2.5hrs driving
Another area that once thrived on the tobacco industry, the King Valley is now a highly regarded wine region. Producing mainly cool climate and Italian varieties, a day exploring the many wineries in this valley truly is a visit to little Italy. These influences are celebrated in festivals held at each winery twice a year in June and November.
Small detours near Cheshunt will take you to Paradise Falls, Powers Lookout and Lake William Hovell where you can stretch your legs and enjoy stunning views.
The King Valley region extends back to Milawa where you can also find a number of local food producers such as Milawa Cheese.
The optional loop via Lake Buffalo has a large section of gravel road which is usually well maintained and suitable for 2WD vehicles. However we advise using caution when taking this route at night, in bad weather or if you are uncertain about driving in more remote areas.
