Bright & Surrounds
Many people have fond childhood memories of family holidays spent in Bright, whether it be picnics in the park, swimming in the clear waters of the Ovens River or eating ice cream from the local ice creamery. Nowadays that includes lesuirely bike rides along the Rail Trial, relaxing at one of several wineries or breweries in the area or attending one of the many festivals held throughout the year.
Close by a few small villages add to the endearment of Bright:
Wandiligong - here the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail concludes with its recent extension from Bright. Step back in time to this historical goldmining town. If you are lucky the hanggliders and paragliders will be out and provide a stunning overhead sight. Perhaps you might like to try it for yourself?!
Harrietville/Smoko – the gateway to Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain, these sleepy little towns are a cool retreat on a hot day and a popular base for commencing some of the popular Alpine walks. Bring a trout home for dinner from the trout farm or grab a bite to eat at one of the local cafes or pubs.
Porepunkah - only 5km from Bright is the gateway to the many spectacular sights of Mount Buffalo National Park. The local riverside park offers a quieter alternative to Bright.
